MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION
One of the G. B. Shaw’s early masterworks, this great comedy deals with social issues still relevant today. Mrs. Kitty Warren is a successful businesswoman who has elevated her station in a man’s world, but her career and her daughter’s education have largely proceeded on separate tracks. At the family’s country cottage, Kitty hopes to establish the mother-daughter relationship she has been dreaming of, but the divide between them becomes more and more complicated. As the daughter discovers how her mother attained her affluence, and the truth about the men in their lives, we are treated to the wit, eloquence and conscience that made George Bernard Shaw one of our greatest comic writers. Tickets for a three-show subscription are $66, a two-show package is $50 and single tickets are $27.50. Thursday, June 29, 2006 - Sunday, July 16, 2006 Jane B. Cook Theatre 5555 N. LIFE X 3
Life X 3 by Yasmina Reza, translation by Christopher Hampton. In this recent comedy by the author of Art, Henri and Sonia are having a rough evening. First, their six-year-old son refuses to go to sleep. Then dinner guests show up for dinner on the wrong night, with nothing but wine and junk food in the house. So when Hubert, Henri’s superior, and his rebellious wife Inez arrive, one disaster leads to another. Add in Hubert’s mistreatment of his wife and lust for Sonia, Henri’s discovery that rival scientists may have destroyed his chances for advancement, and increasing amounts of Sancerre guzzling, and the stage is set for a very funny and devastating comedy.
